The state of Oaxaca has arguably the best food in Mexico and the same goes for its beverages. Contributing to its delicious recipes are a wide range of fresh ingredients and traditional techniques that date back to pre-Hispanic times.

Centro Oaxaca (pronounced wa-ha-ka), also known as El Centro Histórico and a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to Zapotec and Mixtec Indians and traditional pre-Hispanic culture. Its rich history, colonial architecture, plethora of restaurants, museums, art galleries and bustling markets makes this city a must-see travel destination.

Mexican cuisine is diverse, flavorful and made with fresh ingredients and recipes that span thousands of years. The same techniques that were used then are still being utilized now and traditions are being carried from generation to generation with pride.

Ah, Oaxaca! Oaxaca is the capital city of the state of Oaxaca and my favorite region in the country. I have to admit, I don’t like picking favorites because each destination that I visit has something special, but let’s just say Oaxaca is extra special. When I travel, the most important factors are food, culture, people and landscape. Oaxaca checks them all.
